This unmanned Indian Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) rocket explosion took place in India just minutes after takeoff. There seems to be a difference of opinion as to the cause. One Indian official thinks the first stage worked fine and another thinks it didn't. The rocket was carrying a GSAT-5P communications and weather satellite.
The rocket was launched from the Sriharikota Space Center. It soared into the sky with a thick orange flame making a deep roar and then exploded and disintegrated.
